POMEPS is delighted to co-sponsor this year’s reception with the MENA Politics Section, which was established at last year’s annual meeting. At the reception we will be honoring the recipients of the inaugural Section Awards for best dissertation and best paper presented at the APSA Annual Meeting.

The 2019 POMEPS reception will also feature a celebration of the publication of Lisa Wedeen’s eagerly awaited book, Authoritarian Apprehensions: Ideology, Judgment, and Mourning in Syria. Lisa Wedeen is the Mary R. Morton Professor of Political Science and the College and the Co-Director of the Chicago Center for Contemporary Theory at the Universit of Chicago, and a founding member of the Project on Middle East Political Science. We will offer a limited number of free copies of her book for students, which she will be happy to sign during the event.
