POMEPS Welcomes New Steering Committee Members

POMEPS is thrilled to welcome Lindsay J. Benstead, Sarah Elizabeth Parkinson, and Sean Yom to the POMEPS Steering Committee and the addition of long-standing Steering Committee members Nathan J. Brown, Ellen Lust, and Mark Tessler to the new POMEPS Advisory Board.

Introductions: 

Lindsay J. Benstead is Assistant Professor of Political Science in the Mark O. Hatfield School of Government at Portland State University, where she teaches courses on Middle East and North African politics and research methods. She is Affiliated Scholar in the Program on Governance and Local Development at Yale University and the University of Gothenburg and Contributing Scholar in the Program on Women’s Rights in the Middle East, James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy, Rice University. She holds a Ph.D. in Public Policy and Political Science and a M.A.E. in Applied Economics from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Sarah Elizabeth Parkinson is an assistant professor at the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs. She holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Political Science from the University of Chicago and has held fellowships at the Institute for Advanced Study at the University of Minnesota, Institute for Middle East Studies at George Washington University, and at Yale University’s Program on Order, Conflict, and Violence.

Sean Yom is assistant professor of political science at Temple UniversityHe is the author of From Resilience to Revolution: How Foreign Interventions Destabilize the Middle East (Columbia University Press, 2015) and co-editor of The Government and Politics of the Middle East and North Africa (Westview Press, 2016). He is a non-resident senior fellow at the Foreign Policy Research Institute, a member of the International Forum for Democratic Studies at the National Endowment for Democracy, and board member of the Hicham Alaoui Foundation for Social Science Research.
