Examining the Palestinian, Zionist, Algerian, and Irish national movements, this book explores why certain groups succeed in their efforts to achieve statehood while others fail and offers novel theoretical framework for understanding the importance of internal power dynamics.

Krause is an assistant professor of political science at Boston College and a research affiliate with the MIT Security Studies Program. His research focuses on Middle East politics, terrorism and political violence, national movements, and international relations.
