Call for Papers: “Iran’s Look East Policy”

The Iranian Studies Unit at the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies (ACRPS) is
welcoming abstracts for its 2023 annual conference, titled “Iran’s Look East Policy,” to be held
from 14-15 August 2023.

The 2023 annual conference of the ACRPS’s Iranian Studies Unit will examine Iran’s “Look
East” policy, broadly conceived as the Islamic Republic’s relations with countries other than
those in Europe and North America. The conference will explore the policy’s origins,
implications, challenges, and opportunities, as well as Iranian and other perspectives on the
Islamic Republic’s international relations with countries to its geographic east and in the global
south more broadly.

Interested researchers should send in their abstracts (maximum 250 words) no later than 1 March
2023. The abstract should clearly define the problem addressed and explain the objectives and
methods of the project. Only original contributions that have not been published or accepted for
review and publication elsewhere, will be accepted.

Following the approval of the abstract by the conference organizing committee, prospective
participants should send their final draft of the research papers (6,000-10,000 words, including
footnotes and references) no later than 1 June 2023. All the submitted research papers will be
subject to peer-review.
