Call for Applications: Spring 2027 Virtual Research Workshops

The POMEPS Spring Virtual Research Workshop convenes online discussions of groups of three thematically linked journal article-length papers focusing on topics/cases in the MENA region. To provide feedback and expand participants’ professional networks, each paper is assigned a senior scholar discussant.  The Virtual Research Workshop is open to scholars in political science or cognate disciplines of all career ranks, with a preference for pre-tenure scholars.  The goal of the workshop is to help scholars prepare their manuscripts for submission to a peer-reviewed journal in political science, a related discipline, or interdisciplinary regional studies. For these workshops, we are accepting only proposals aimed for publication in academic journals (articles from 8,000-12,000 words).  We are not accepting books, dissertation chapters, op-eds or policy reports.

The deadline to submit abstracts is November 20, 2026.  Successful applicants will be notified by December 11, 2026 and workshops will be held in the Spring 2027 semester. Successful applicants who accept our invitation must commit to delivering a complete paper no later than two weeks before the scheduled workshop, and to read and comment upon the other papers presented in the session. Because participation is limited, anyone who accepts a spot but later withdraws will not be eligible to apply in the following year.
