Five years after the Arab uprisings that shook the Middle East, the region has witnessed the rise and fall of democratically elected Islamist parties and the shocking influence of violent movements such as the Islamic State. On January 28, 2016, three panelists joined POMEPS for a discussion on the future of Islamist movements in the Middle East and how we study them.

Panelists:

Lindsay Benstead – Portland State University

Hesham Sallam– Stanford University

Jillian Schwedler – Hunter College

Moderated by:

Marc Lynch – George Washington University

This event is part of a special series on Islam in a Changing Middle East supported by the Henry Luce Foundation.
